Police in New York attempted to initiate a traffic stop with a gray Mercedes-Benz, but the driver decided to run from the officers. Police started to follow but then decided it was too dangerous and stopped pursuing.

The gray car did not slow down, though. Breaking the speed limit and running through at least one red light, the car careened down the street until it slammed into a family of five in their Mazda.

It is unclear exactly how many people got hurt initially, but the injuries to two of them — a female child and the child’s mother — were so severe that reports state that they’re still in the hospital. Two other sisters and the father were also in the car at the time of the wreck.

The police did arrest two people from the Mercedes after the crash. Even those two got out of the car and tried to flee on foot, but they were unsuccessful. A third person also ran from the scene and has not been caught at this time.

The impact was violent enough that a third car was involved. It was a white Acura. One individual who was in that vehicle also suffered injuries and needed medical treatment, though they should recover in time.
