Disease victims and workers’ compensation benefits

When a person is injured on the job, such as the result of a scaffolding accident, it’s often clear that he or she should be awarded workers’ compensation benefits.

Conversely, there are times when this is not as easy to see.

For example, disease victims are often faced with challenges when making a workers’ compensation claim.

An example of this would be chemical exposure that leads to brain damage. While the person may realize that his or her job caused their disability, the workers’ compensation system does not always agree. For this reason, it can take many months or years to finally receive payments.

Anybody who is injured on the job knows that workers’ compensation is an option. Unfortunately, state systems are notoriously difficult to deal with. This is even more so the case when chemically induced illnesses come into play, as these occur slowly over time as opposed to in a sudden manner.

Of course, this doesn’t mean you should give in if you feel that your job caused a serious illness or disease. Instead, you need to understand the workers’ compensation system in your state and then navigate the challenges associated with receiving benefits.

Do you have reason to believe that you are suffering from a disease because of workplace exposure? You have the right to consult with an attorney, and our law firm is more than willing to help.

We can review your case, provide you with answers and advice, and give you hope that you will be able to receive workers’ compensation benefits at some point in the near future.
